**Trip Report** Final Leg!!!!!!!!

Posted by Miles (168.100.198.130) on May 12, 2006 at 13:36:50

We finally made it. Jeep joined Tim and I for the last leg of Montauk, Long Island to Red Hook, Brooklyn. We launched about 12:20 from B122 Street, Rockaway Beach scene of last weeks near disaster. The wind was howling, sand was blowing on the beach. It was 20-25mph with gusts up to 35 from due east. The surf to the beach was surprisingly small and launching was a non-event. White caps were everywhere but once we got a comfortable distance from shore we sailed along at a very fast clip aided by the wind and the swell. The recorded high speed was 13.5 mph surfing on waves just past Breezy Point. Drifting alone we almost were doing 2 mph. We rounded Coney Island caught the flood tide crossed Gravesend Bay and had lunch on Voodoo Beach near the base of the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Then it was a quick 5 miles to the Coffey Street Pier/Landing in Red Hook by 5:45. A total of 19.04 miles for the day. The trip totaled 140.72 in 7 days.

Many thanks Tim for many great days on the water and to you too Jeep for joining us on the last day. Where should we go next!!!!!
