Monday turned out to be a relatively nice day save for the wind. The air temp was 45 F, the water temp 43 F. The wind was from the west 10 - 20 knots and shifted to the northwest in the late afternoon. Distance covered - 20 miles.

The ocean was a lot calmer than the last time we set out. We launched at the southernmost point of Holgate at about 10:55. We paddled up the coast trying to stay as close to shore as possible to take advantage of the shelter from the wind that the houses and dunes provided. Shortly after passing the Ship Bottom water tower we headed to shore for a lunch break. We resumed our quest northward with Tim commenting that it was boring compared to the previous leg. Finally we could see the lighthouse and fighting with the now NW wind which had increased in strength as opposed to the NOAA prediction of subsiding we rounded the jetty only to be greeted by wind in our faces and an outrushing tide. Boring no more! We sucked it up and proceeded with a painful slog thought the inlet, past the lighthouse and into the first marina on our left to a small beach where Tim's car awaited as refuge from the wind. Next time we will pay closer attention to the tides.

Hopefully, weather permitting we will resume our journey next Monday the 16th.

it's been so long that i actually miss that feeling of being so close yet so far
with my torso burning from the wind and tide
and my face burning from the wind and the sting of that cold-ass water

at least there are people out there that let me talk to kids about math
- and the kids have to listen - it's awesome, i usually have to trap people into talking about math

miles, that was either a great post or i'm going through withdrawal
either way, thanks for all you have done to contribute
i only have a few weeks left at school
i'll get out there soon
